Stolen from Hythe marina wednesday 19th august.

Seems it was taken in broad daylight through a lock and dissapeared, we saw it thusday pm in Cowes, reason is I know the boat from being moored in Hythe some time back.

Its called Sarah Jayne white hulled version, just shows how easy it is to lift a boat especially like Hythe where its all cctv and a lock to go through.

Last seen Guernsey, any info contact lock office Hythe.

I think its may be an inside job as to where keys are kept etc, maybe owner had an engine service previous, motto always hide your keys on board.

Something doesn't seem right here. Why would you choose to steal a boat from Hythe where you have to exit through a lock and run the risk of being questioned by the lock operator, not to mention being photographed on CCTV? Why would you do it during broad daylight and risk being seen by somebody who knows the boat and it's owner? Why would you then go to Cowes and, again, risk being identified? Similarly with Guernsey?
If I wanted to steal a boat, I think I'd take a boat from one of the Hamble or Itchen marinas from where you could drive straight out to sea and I'd do it at night and I certainly wouldn't call in at 2 of the most popular yachting destinations in the E Channel. I'd also change the name on the transom as soon as I got it away from the marina

Well at least they have good taste - although given the range of boats available and age of the Phantom now, you would have thought there would be newer attractions. Sounds like it was targetted for a particular reason, unless it was the easiest keys to get.

Given the fuel it uses, I hope they looked at the reviews and took enough dosh with them ;-)

It must have gone in cowes to fuel up for the channel crossing, they must have paid cash otherwise credit cards are tracable, they must be in the know as to what mpg/cost to get away etc, must be stolen to order or sold cheap with a no questions asked/paperwork sale.

I dont doubt it but, without casting aspersions, it's almost as if the thieves wanted to be seen stealing the boat. If I was planning to steal a boat, firstly, I'd have some decals made up to change the name and, secondly, I'd have some jerrycans of diesel standing by in case the boat was short of fuel and I certainly wouldn't steal a boat that involved locking out of a CCTV covered marina in broad daylight. I wonder if the insurance co will be paying up straightaway on this one?
 
I agree Mike. Stolen in daylight on the Weds, but still in Cowes on Thurs afternoon?? That's got to be almost 24 hours later, and the cunning thieves have moved the boat about 6 miles, and haven't even changed the name?? Sounds fishy as a pollock pie to me.
 
Hmmm got me wondering now about security, I was a berth holder in Hythe a number of years back and to be honest you can walk around anywhere on pontoons as there is no gated access at all, also round houses and the yard no problem.

Bet there are a few red faces in the lock office over this one, however in my time there I got to know the staff and always found them very helpfull and chatty whatever the situation, I even got a week free! as I arrived early due to a good road transport slot/price.

I wonder if gigm knows the owner?? yes mike it does sound a bit fishy this one but could have been well planned, maybe the takers knew the tanks were full too!
 
I live 5mins from the marina and can say that I have always found I can walk around everywhere and never been challenged by the security guys, but part of the problem could be the fact that joe public has access to the public slipway which is within the boundaries of the marina complex,also on foot you can access the marina without going thro' the main entrance, again unchallenged. So, at anytime of day or night the security/lock-keeper has no idea who's on site.
 
I just like to add, twern't me, I was up Beaulieu river Wednesday 19th August and got witnesses to vouch for me, also photo's.

According to a friend who berths there, it was a Sealine SC35, not a Phantom 38 (unless two went?) Evidently, they waited for freeflow, then followed another boat that was cleared to leave on the green lights.

Many conspiracy theories locally evidently!!
 
HI Mike there is a proper advert at Ocean village office picture of boat at mooring etc, also spoke to marina manager he told me quite a bit about the theft, wont quote here though.

I believe you used to be there, hows the new boat going?.

I was looking at some u tube stuff the other day with you and pentti on, those were the days!! im just looking for a nice gp4 mark 2 at the moment to maybe take out half a dozen times a year ive not done anything since 1988!!! so will be a bit rusty when I get going.

Not heard anything about an sc35 though unless of course its been a bad week at hythe.

Mmmm, bit of a mystery, my pal insists it was an SC35, but he may be wrong.

New boat is great thanks - new canopy going on this week. She's really in good nick, one nearby bertholder thought it was brand new!!

Had a problem with the boost sensor on the starboard TAMD74P - one of the old variety, that lets the condensation reach the sensor itself. It was wildly overreading, thus causing the unit to ber very slow to increase revs. That's been fixed now (new membrane type), and the port one will be fixed this week once Volvo gets extra stock (on back order), though as that one underreads, it does not prevent the engine from working. It's a fantastic sea hull, brushing aside the F6 Solent chop the other day with hardly a murmer, though the fuel consumption is a bit awe inspiring too!!

I have to say that Hutchins Marine Sales have been phenomenal - everything so far covered under warranty (including the new JB canopy, full cut and polish, full engine service and every other little problem the picky owners have identified!)

The 1988 RAC Rally was my last competitive event too - boy, I would be rusty myself, but you'll have a ball - have fun!!
 
Mike the older variety of engines are a lot less trouble than the new type common rail engines and will last years beyond there newer replacements.

Was your last event in an astra with derek bell?? if im wrong will have to dust the videos off and play them!!

Bear me in mind for your service next year im just up the river at present.
 
Sounds very fishey :) Perhaps the scorn of a jilted partner or spouse, or a row between parties involved in a syndicate owned boat, or even a mistaken delivery skipper who has collected the wrong vessel - it's happened before. :) Send in Jim Bergerac to sort it out!

Oh dear, you remember well!!! "Will you listen to me please, Derek" was played several times on Aunties Sporting Bloomers with Wogan!! Strangely, that phrase brought my daughter together with her (now ex) husband. She was walking into a pub one evening when this guy said just that to one of his mates as she passed. She asked him why he had said it, and he quoted the RAC Rally footage - "that's my Dad" she told him, and started a relationship that brought us two gorgeous granddaughters!!

I have to say I'm impressed with the 74P's - lots of grunt, but really smooth and a very quiet installation in the S48. Using about 2.6/2.8 litres per mile (each, according to the Volvo fuel flow meters) at 2000 rpm/22 knots, which is a bit of an "ouch", but it's a big and very heavy boat I suppose.

Regarding service, will indeed bear you in mind - can you pm me with your mobile number. Won't be 'til next Autumn, unless, of course, anything goes wrong in the meantime!!

Ahh so I was right about dinger, shame I cant remember what I was sent to tesco for this afternoon by my new to be wife this coming Friday.

As I remember the footage was on a tarmac straight covered in leaves with you barking your head off at him, anyway good days now gone eh.

Most people don't see their boat between monday to friday. If the boat was taken wed it would give them a couple of days head start. Also taking a boat at night will be more unusual.
If you have the front people will get away with all sorts

I agree, if someone has the nerve to do something like this then they probably have more chance of getting away with it if they just look 'normal' and go about it at a busy time of day when nothing looks out of the ordinary.
