the boat left Hythe and finised up in Santander where it was left, subsequently impounded by spainish aurthorities. the boat was released to the owner last wek and is now back on her mooring in Hythe arrived yesterday afternoon

As a previous occupant of Hythe, I have to say I am quite surprised to read this story. When we sold the boat, the purchaser (a yachtie forumite) had been to the lock office to ask which berth the boat was on. I met him there.

Half an hour later I VHF'd the lock to ask to leave - "Standby" came the reply. 30secs later my mobile rang, it was the lock office checking if I was on the boat because a stranger had been in asking about. I thought it was a good impromptu demo on how secure the marina is.

ALso we once arrived about 11pm on a Friday night and dropped the washboard in the cockpit by mistake - the curtains on the house opposite were then parted and somebody looked out.

Despite this thread, I would still consider it to be one of the most secure marinas, esp. with the cop-shop just outside the entrance.
