I know I should not be promoting either Amazon or Black Friday in here but I am reluctant to share this news with the Lounge where most of them seem to be inebriated already.
Among the offers are some useful stores, Jura 10 year old £25, 18 year old £50, Laphroig, Glenlivet, Auchentoshan, Aberlour, all between 25-35% off, The best bargain for me is a litre of Black Bush for £23, my brothers Christmas present sorted. This stuff keeps and is unlikely to get cheaper and off course delivery is free.

What’s your boats name, does it have AIS fitted, I’ll need to look out for you? There will be none of this “you will not be staying for your tea Vicar” stuff.
Thanks for the tips.

My younger daughter once went through our store cupboards, disposing of everything that was out of date. She found an opened bottle of malt whisky and decided it was out of date...
I blame the parents. In fact, I think that malt whisky is never as good as when it is freshly opened, and even more so for fino sherry.

Hmmmm - Does that mean you HAVE to consume all at 1 sitting for maximum enjoyment - HIC!
Whatever floats your boat. I have never got tight on whisky. One glass of something decent satisfies me, but I have to settle for the fact that that mmmm feeling when tasting a fresh new one won’t reappear when sampled a day or three later.

You are sure you are not imagining that? Not much point in keeping it for 10-20 years if you want fresh stuff

As I understand it, an unopened bottle will not change over many years. An opened one in my house lasts a month or two, which is long enough for some deterioration to take place, but not enough to deter me from tippling. It just becomes a little duller.

Opened bottles in my house don't get a chance to go off. I have managed to hold onto an unopened Glenmorangie millennium malt, which gets more valuable as the years go by. I expect it will be very similar tastewise to a 2020 bottle, but my Scottish side can't bring me to open it while it appreciates.
When should it be opened? Or is it just an investment?

Brings back memories of happy days in NI ? though actually I'm a Caribbean Rum person, for my recent birthday my daughter sent me a bottle of Mount Gay Black Barrel. When I tasted it I thought heavy overtones of whisky! Read the label which told me it is aged in charred Bourbon whiskey casks. Best of both worlds ?
PS - I see that Lidl will have Bacardi Gold on special from 3/12 ?

Keep it for another thirty years then offer it for sale, you shold be able to buy at least 2 bottles of Jura with the proceeds, goes down twice as nicely and you can get twice as drunk or drunk twice. Result!
By 2050 malt will be banned (in Scotland anyway) as they will have measured the harm it does you, so you need to stash more than one bottle, if you had it in a cask it would be continuing to improve as well as get rarer.

I hope that l get another 30years. My consumption may mitigate against a long term jackpot. I have a bottle of Jura waiting for Christmas, and hope to see another two in the cupboard soon. Isn't the winter fuel allowance a wonderful thing ☺️
