Stirring AF paint is a bore and not sure if I realy mix it up enough, by hand.

So, have been turning the tin upside down every week.

Result ?

Just make sure the drill is set to a very slow speed before using. My trainers are still blue and I had to ditch the trousers.

I have had 2 bad experiences firstly with the stirer in the pedestal drill. I pushed it down to the bottom of the can to get the stuff on the bottom and managed to cut a hole in the can. Another time I decided to store the remnants of 4 litre tin upside down. Obviously lid was not sealed and Blue a/f every where.
Yuck I have no answers but if OP can store upside down without leaks I would leave tit hat way. good luck (or at least better luck than mine) olewill

+1 Excellent gadget.
A smaller sized version can be found sometimes, better for AF as less paint-chucking power: you need to go really slow with the drill. AF collects a lot of sludge at the bottom of the can that really needs thorough re-stirring several times during a painting session.

Get a piece of ply (covered in polythene) or plastic, drill a hole in it and put the shaft of the paint stirrer through it. Then clamp it over the can of paint.
My stirrer is just a small square of bent metal held between two nuts on a piece of m8 studding.

Some AF really congeals in the bottom of the can, you have to break up the lumps to start.

Update:

Just checked three tins, few months, one year and four years old.

Been turning them every week over the winter.

The few months old one was fine, other two had settled big time and needed whisking.

Only one tin to whisk then - the one year old and the 4 year old can be binned - biocide will have expired or at the very least weakened to the point it is not worth applying. You could always refresh them by adding 5~10% TBT and giving them a good stirring.

I use an old aluminium tent peg in a battery drill / driver. Much easier when the tin is not full to the top but works well and is not messy because the agitation is not too violent.
