We stinkies stride confidently along the finger berth graciously waving to the admiring ladies and are elegantly attired in white uniform with matching braid bedecked caps and shiney shoes.Raggies shuffle along looking for a discarded fag butt scratching their bits.....................................

Motor boats , carries a small bag and crate of wine, swinging their large bunch keys around a finger .

Yachteys, Carrie enormous kit bag, a bottle of whiskey under one arm and a single key on a great big float.

You sound like the village people, ah ha, are we onto something here!

I do find the difference funny, I am just trying to imagine a scenario where I would dress up to go 'boating'

nope can't think of one.

Stinkies think everyone is watching them and are impressed, raggies know they don't impress anyone.

Hey! It's the raggies that dress up to go boating! Just look at them lined up along the windward side, feet hanging over, with identikit uniforms on. Ravcing boats especially prone

Stinkies just get onto their boats and go. Though some wear old beaten dry suits...and even life jackets! <g>

Now I don't know where this stnkie v raggie thing comes from, well I do but........
Anyhow I talk to a lot of raggies and even drink with them. Found in the past that you can get grumpy gits in both camps. Most of the raggies I know are as interested in my little boat as I am in they're yacht, being an ex dingy sailor.

The worst culprits I find are those with big boats looking down on people with smaller boats. Bit like people who drive big flash cars looking down their noses at 2cv drivers.

There was a bit in MBM this month, see Kim do buy it now and then, with an interview with that Wolstenholme chap, the designer. Bearing in mind the type of boats he designs and the companies he designs for he hit the nail on the head when he said "The whole thing about boating is you can pitch it wherever you want, whether you're in a luxury superyacht or a tiny dinghy. I'm unimpressed by people who say otherwise."
To me thats what its all about choices.

To me, boating is about going places. When you are pathfinder to a fleet finding it heavy going in bouncy but not that heavy going condtions in boats that weigh in at three or eight times yours, and they find the condtions tough because they are getting wet and cold, then you have to question the abilitity of some boats sea keeping abilities.Especially when the larger boats have peeps with towels round thier necks, and are obviously uncomfortable?

When 40'+ boats question if going to Poole from Solent is OK in F4+ is ok, you have to wonder. What is going to spoil the trip? other than SWMBO's worrying if if it might get a bit lumpy?

Motor boaters: In at the yacht club bar pissing & moaning about the impending doom of 90p/ltr red diesel and the fact the boat drinks 30 galls/hr. However...just got back from Ireland having "nipped over" for lunch...

Yachties: Gather round the motor boater goggle eyed and astonished at the "unbelievable consumption" of motor boats, being as they have just stowed 30 gallons of red in scruffy plastic containers stowed next to the propane bottles at the stern of their yachts. Both propane and red will last the entire season. However... they just about made it to the fairway bouy and back in time for a pint (no time for lunch!)...

Actually, I have an extensive range of boating attire and I select only these garments in which to persue my boating enjoyment...

Oil-stained ripped, knackered, you name it, I have it for boating. Funnily enough, it was the boat that made the clothes like this in the first place :)

I was going to pick you up on the top line of your post suggesting, hang on Dave, I have met you and seen how you dress for boating.

Then you redeemed such utter nonsense so all is ok again. The main Motor yacht let down is your sparkley new looking dinghy, almost pure white from what I remember!

Is it me

Or is there a growing tendency for you motorboatytypies to gain weight, have dreadful haircuts and drive around in 4x4s which your little blond wives don't seem to be able to reverse?

Re: Is it me

All of the above!
Though still a little worried about the fact that you raggies still think rogering the cabin boy is still acceptable in this day and age! (a joke only applicable to those forumites going on this weekends Cherbourg trip)

It seems Roger the Cabin Boy has jumped ship, but has left the vaseline behind?
Very wasteful, and he must have more money than sence?
