The console on my V42 has gone very sticky in places. Any suggestions as to what I may be able to clean it with? I have not had much luck with inflatable boat cleaner or auto "tar" remover which were suggested elsewhere....

Have you tried a strong cleaner/degreaser or are the products you mention exactly the same. Another idea might be white spirit or acetate, cleaned off afterwards of course.

sounds like the plasticisers are coming to the surface
Try WD40 - very good solvent and quite gentle. wipe clean with fairy liquid on a rag/sponge after.
if it's really bad and resists wd40, wipe it down with petrol on a rag- obviously be careful, test a small area first etc, and clean off with fairy liguid on a sponge after else it will pong.

If it is plasticisers leaching try alcohol wipes and some UV resistant polish to slow the process down. Unfortunately to my knowledge there is no permanent cure.

I suspect that this will prove hard to solve. I have had things so sticky before and not been successful at solving it.
The V42 dash is pretty flat, and you may find that getting it wrapped ( or doing it yourself given its simple shape) maybe a better solution.

Silicon spray may mask it after initial clean up.
