Stffing box packing

Has any one experience of different types of gland packing? I ask as I have to renew ours every year and though we do quite some mileage in a year I was expecting a longer life.

I used Teflon impregnated stuffing for a Sigma 362 doing about 50 to 100 engine hours a year and it held up for at least five years. Are you sure you are using the correct grease in the feeder and that, if automatic it is feeding properly. It sounds as thought the stuffing may be geting too dry.

Why are you having to replace it? How was it failing? My current stuffing has been in for at least 5 years and that on my prevoius boat had been in for 15 years.
