Interested if anyone runs Steyr diesel engines and if so, how to they find them? In particular interested in the MO series.
Many thanks,
Robin
Many thanks,
Robin
They are popular with the MOD so would expect them to be reliable, have been out in a friends boat a few years back that was fitted with one and was a smooth quiet engine and don't recall him complaining about any issues
Thanks John, Mitchells are the UK dealer now and as far as I can tell, parts currently available. With luck they will be for a while!
Mitchells are the agent but believe mermaid also still service them albeit buying parts in.
I remember negotiating with Mitchells on their enormous bill for something they never managed to sort...
you can send a PM to poster Maverickofpoole,
he used to have a Karnic with a Steyer engine, and had a few issues, so that he repowered the boat with another (brand) engine iirc.
that was all quite some years ago.
Had a pair in a Triana a few years back, very smooth and good power. But beware there is no cylinder head its all feed in from the base so it's engine out for any major maintenance which can be a challenge.
Edit: Just found that diagnostic application and user guide is free download, so even better. Another tick on the list!
The software is free but you would need to purchase the cable to connect to your laptop. If I remember correctly when I asked the question the lead was about £75 but that was 3 or 4 years ago.
I believe you can also download the workshop manual or your can buy a hard copy which I had for my local mechanic.
Frugal sporty engines. I kept a full fuel log with mine and averaged out at 14 litres per hour but that was a mixture of pootling, flat out and fishing, yes when drifting wrecks we keep our engine going so a lot of idling. I think we achieved 22 litres per hour cruising at 3200-3400rpm giving us 20-22 knots on a boat that weighed 2.5ish tons at 25' long
Hey rbcoomer did you ever make up a Steyr diagnostic cable by chance? If so can you pls send me the pin layout for the connectors? Thanks! Thanks Martin - and also for the pms, very helpful :encouragement:
I should be able to make a cable, but if not certainly worth buying.
