I want to remove the varnish from a small section of teak veneer in order to treat some spots of black mould. The veneer is very thin so im reluctant to use sand paper and in a non marine environment I'd use fine wire wool but i dont want to risk rust spots in future. What are your thoughts / experience with brass/bronze/stainless wire wool or other alternatives? Thanks

Paint/varnish stripper and card scraper or, just card scraper done dry.
Thanks Graham
I havent come across these before. Is it possible to feather the shaved area into the existing varnish as i dont what to remove the varnish from the whole panel if i can avoid it. The black mould is only along the bottom edge. I will be spraying the varnish with very thin coats

Brass wire wool, great stuff.
Fossa Brass Wire Wool
I see the link shows that it’s only available in a coarse grade. I had a problem with a stain on my teak cockpit table and a fiend suggested SS wire wool to avoid the rusting issue. I bought some only to be horrified to see that it was coarse grade. It would have caused more harm than good. I sorted my issue with Bar Keepers Friend but I didn’t have a lacquer layer to remove.

I have seen this but was concered it would be too course? I'm after a super smooth finish. Is it suitable for this?

Initially bought for similar black colouring under the varnish internal following a leak from above. I had doubts at first, but found that it depended on the amount of force/pressure applied. Now used on all my varnish work.
