Anyone know how accurate the unltrasonic thickness testers are?

pretty accurate Tony, we use them all the time on here to test high pressure pipework. Paint should be scraped off to bare metal and use a thin smear of something like 3-in-1 oil before applying the sensor head.

0.04mm is claimed for the first one. Some allow for paint, others don't

Tony its used a lot in the oilpatch on lines which carry 15,000 psi in old money - no idea what this modern metric thing would be.

You wanting to know how thick yer iron ship thingy is. Well it ait sunk yet so thick enough, maybe!! Well it's the only one you've got, so stick with it. Else like Barry says. Drill a hole through it and find out!!
