The other thread was great but I think more priority should be given to choosing a boat which suits those of us with SWMBOs whose sailing is limited, by ability, inclination, or otherwise.

Patio doors

my wife always admires boats with double doors that lead onto a asort of terrace thing

a vase of gladioli

two bathrooms - one ensuite

enoujght room for six guests

dishwasher

she wants a boat that could appear on Grand designs - instead she ends up in a the super slugv

Sounds like most swimbo's are the death of sailing & adventure......Time to tell them who is the Captain (I hav'nt got one myself) but pointing out the prospective domains should be sufficient.......Swimbo's rule in the kitchen at sea they are merely passengers & should have confidence & trust in the skippers ability for the sake of .........a wonderful priceless experience (explained to them very carefully as part of an education program). What's wrong with that?

Swmbo says that if she ever comes aboard my boat, it will be with a drill, and I did name it after her - 'Little Madam'.
We still have a good marriage after 55 years.

It is really a struggle to get them interested isn't it?:)

It causes more grief in my life than anything else. Whilst still the "GF" she was very keen, but once she got that ring on her finger...
I agree with Dylan - she would like patio doors, so I tell her, "if you can bring them with you next time, without my help..."

I know I know

I think my mum would give you a slap for that :-)

She's more keen on sailing than my dad is, and a better helm to boot.

Pete

there are exceptions - but how often do you see a woman out sailing by herself?

I love it when Jill comes sailimg

- she is a great helm - and the hygiene improves immensely - but she will only come sailing when the weather man is actually running up a sweat

What a sad lot!

All of our many sailing friends are couples and have been together and sailing so for many years. We had one couple over for a meal last week who sailed transat many years ago in an elderly 35 footer and are still based out in the Caribbean and currently run a 60ft luxury charter cat when not on their own boat there. Just looking along the long pontoon where we kept our boats there is only one single that I can think of, most are pretty active couple sailors. Three of the boats near us are owned and skippered by ladies two of which are racers and the third is also a yacht surveyor. Not only that but most of these lovely ladies also contribute greatly to the winter work ashore on their boats, mine even has her own overalls with designer antifoul colour samples collected over many years.

So what are you lot doing wrong?:)
