Hi, I am moving my boat from UK to Spain. It’s a sailing yacht. Max speed 7 Knts. The roaming plan works well when near the coast with the standard kit but for 3 or 4 days of the journey I will be up to 125 miles from the coast. I am aware I would need the Boat Plan for this. Will it work with the standard kit? I don’t really want to purchase the high performance kit just for these 3 or 4 days. Thanks Jon

Not sure if STARLINK have changed the terms yet but we had roaming in the Caribbean (account was registered in the Dominican Republic) and when we crossed the Atlantic back to the UK we enabled the priority toggle for which you pay per GB (about £2 per Gb) and that worked the whole way.

We had the standard V2 dish and it was fine

Thanks. Did you have the standard hardware kit or the marine kit (is about £2500 in uk)

It will work with standard kit but the roam plan has changed so if you want at sea data you will need to change to the boat plan and then when you get to Spain if it's going to be there for more than 2 months you'l need to change your roam plan country to Spain. You simply need to transfer the hardware to yourself (with a new email address) and a Spanish address (marina is fine or a local pub - there are no checks as to who lives there and no written information ever sent to the address) Your current credit card should be fine too as the US billing never uses address verification so it won't matter that its not a Spanish registered credit card .

Standard kit works fine up to 10 knots and has been tested on cars at 70 mph with few drop outs . There is an excellent Starlink on Boats FB group which has lots of real world info

They changed that again so that you can enable Mobile Priority (offshore data) on the Roam plan still. But they also said this will change again in 2025. So who knows how it'll be soon.

Last week we did an offshore passage (Madeira to Canaries) after the October 10th plan change, and were able to enable priority data for that.

Yes its been postponed til "early 25" but some users report that it wasn't working unless they contacted Customer Service who then put it back.. As ever Starlink is a little mixed on their messages

Still the very best thing going though :D

Just be aware that two factor authentication has been preventing people from switching on priority while at sea so switch it on in advance if you want to be sure.

Indeed. I have the toggle on my Android device, but not on my iOS device 🤷‍♂️

The toggle in the app often disappears. Use the website as it always works and works at sea if disconnected too
