Hi Everyone
I’m hoping for guidance on wiring the transducer for my SH CP180 plotter to it’s Airmar P58 transducer. The first image is the page in the SH manual. The second image is the page on the Airmar website for connecting their P58 transducer to a SH CP180. I’m not an electronics engineer but have basic knowledge plus common sense and have done this sort of thing successfully in the past. My query is the different naming terms in the two images. SH refer to NMEA input and output ports whereas Airmar refer to depth positive and negative and shield. Could anyone advise how to connect please? Does the transducer need a power input or does it get power from the plotter?
many thanks
Jonathan

What's the Airmar part number please ?

I guess it will be (or should be) a DST521, Airmar part number 31-493-02

That being the case, you need a back box fishfinger, the transducer does not connect via the NMEA ports.

Looking at the CP180 handbook and Airmar information the CP180 input is serial NMEA. The Transducer is analogue. You need the FF525 interface box to connect them.

If you have the FF252 it should all just plug together.
Paul R has more experience with this and should be able to confirm if this is correct.

Yes, this is all correct.

Oh Bu66er! It’s a case of a little knowledge being a dangerous thing! I also have the option of a dual beam Garmin transducer as below. Is there some way to make this set up work?
Really appreciate your help
cheers Jonathan

Won't work.

You three choices.

1) find a used black box fishfinder
2) Buy the Actisence converter (about £240)
3) Get a NMEA 0183 transducer and connect it to one of the NMEA ports.

Many thanks Paul. Option 1 about £250 on eBay, ditto for option 2 from what you quote. Could you advise which transducer would qualify under 3)? I tried to look at your website to see if this was your business but it seems blocked. I’d be happy to pay for your advice/help if it’s business.
cheers Jonathan

If you're out of the UK my website doesn't work.

No need to pay for my advice here, but thanks for the offer.

Been a while since i've had to fit NMEA transducers, but a Google search should hopefully turn something up. Any NMEA 0183 one should work, post here with what you find and i'll double check it for you.
