Stanchions/guardrail replacement

I have to replace a bent stanchion and the stainless guardwire has frayed in a few places, is this an easy job to do myself, or do I have to go to a boat yard/specialist?

I know where I can get both items cheaply myself, but I am a bit confused concerning the terminal arrangements, can I attach the terminals myself, or is it a specialist job?

its an easy job to do normaly the ends are crimped on but you can buy special "compression type fittings"( cant think name of sure someone will say)which are a little expensive but can be re-used..changed my guard wire last year for same reason also stretched as people tend to push on them...

The name you were looking for is "Stay-Lok", Norseman is another very similar make.

As someone else has said, either Norseman or Sta-lock fittings are cheaper in the long run, as in future you only need to change the wire. Usually the wire diameter is 4 mm. These fittings come with a variety of ends, so get ones that fit your pushpit/pulpit. Make one end fixed and the other a bottle screw, or you could make it a loop instead and use several turns of line to tighten the guardwire.
