I am in the process of replacing a number of my stanchion bases which are damaged and been leaking prior to me owning the boat. I seem to have different types fitted throughout the boat, so purchased a number of the Allen ones as pictured. Some of the stanchion posts came out of the bases with a few taps but a couple of them were seized solid. After soaking for a few hours with a mix of acetone and ATF (automatic trans fluid) I was able to eventually twist them free without destroying some of the existing intact bases.

I am really just posting this for anyone else considering this job in the future and the good results that acetone and atf can produce as an anti seize/freeing agent.PVMS1568.JPGs-l1600.jpg
