The anenometer at the top of the mast has stopped spinning or does so intermittently. Guess this means a (expensive) new masthead unit. Anyone know anyone in Chichester area who can fix this mast up?

we have just replaced ours, new transducer short arm for st60 £180. fitted it myself so cant recommend anyone. bought ours from greenham regis in s'ton. can recommend them for helpful service and best price for new unit.

if it's just not turning it could be just the bearings. raymarine can service them. but if you are practical i woulds expect you could buy the bearings cheap from your local bearing trader for a few quid and do it yourself.

My ST50 does this about every 18 months. A trip up the mast sees it easily removed, remove the grubscrew holding the rotary cups and the bearing / shaft is exposed. A quick clean and squirt of WD40 and off you go again. that or about 200 quid for the new parts!

We just took ours off and sprayed with McLube. Far better than oils or greases as it a dry lubricant so doesn't clog up the works with all the dust and dirt etc you get stuck in otherwise.
Watch out when you refit the unit though as you may need to recalibrate. You will definitely have to if you fit a new unit.
