Hi to all,
This is what I wrote to Raymarine’s On-Line customer support.
«It´s about an ST60 Wind, factory installed on a brand new ELAN 40.
On his first trip the owner , toggling between Apparent and True, realized that the numbers appeared to be reverse. That is, sailing close to the wind, the True number was greater than the Apparent, the True needle closer to 12:00,and downwind the opposite. Yesterday, we re-linearized it, the display flashed, but the needle positioned way off the middle (120 degrees off), which we compensated pressing the relevant button. However the situation remained the same, it still appears to reverse True and Apparent. Please advise.»
To which -3 days after- I received the following .
-{True wind is determined by wind speed and direction also speed through the water.
Speed through the water is critical.}
Faithfully I went on
«Sure speed through water is critical.Perhaps I should have mentioned that ST60 speed is also in place with Sea-Talk cables connected.Without this App and True values would be the same, no?
Does it also worry you that after linearisation the needle settled 120 degrees off?»
Ten days now, no reply from the On-Line Support.
Any suggestion from the forumites?
Rgds

Isn't it effectively 180 degs out, ie is reading tack angle apparent when going upwind as if it is the gybe angle going downwind? This would explain the reversed speed differences between true and apparent I think? The wind angle is adjustable on the display head, perhaps this was set up wrongly when installed, why not try resetting it by 180 degs?

Mine does the same. I've fitted a Windex and learned not to worry! Even with COG from the NMEA interface recently introduced it hasn't improved. Sometimes it just gives "---
" instead of "true".

Swinging the compensation 180 has a sort of effect for a few minutes then it just reverts to it's previous bad ways. Wouldn't have had Raymarine out of choice but the builders fit it as standard.

I phoned them today for a "2 pin plug" from the ST3000 autohelm Control Head to the wheel drive motor. The first thing I was told was "I don't think we support the ST3000 any more. I'll check with the engineers and get one of them to phone you back." That was 0930 this morning, and I am still awaiting a phone call.

I have just been on the Raymarine site - and there it is advertised, the ST3000.

So do they sell it and instantly not support it????
