Just back from a short shore based break in the SOF. Not my favourite place at the best of times (France that is!)Taken by friends to St. Trop' and what a dump it is. Why do people with money go to these cr*&p holes?
Marbella is exactly the same, can't understand the attraction at all.

People with money go to these so called cr*p holes as a way of showing their wealth as they know plebs will be there to gawp.... Did you take a walk around the harbour by chance?

If you don't like the places then don't go! Or was it because you were taken you felt compelled to go?

When you talk of Marbella, surely you mean Puerto Banus. The harbours in Marbella could not be compared to St. Tropez.

Give me the Med any day of the week over UK.

Sorry to hear that. I suspect you just didn't go to the nice places. You need a better tour guide/entertainments manager :)

we went to St Tropez a few years back and stayed in a cabin affair on the outskirts of town... went in to the harbour as a large/huge charter boat (One More Toy?) came in to berth.. paid 8 Euros for a cup of tea and two quarter slices of toast with marmalade and went running back to the Super U to buy something more filling, feeling very much out of our league:o Mission accomplished by those getting off of One More Toy I reckon:)

Your right. It's tragic. I am sitting here in St Jean Cap Ferrat doing figures about buying a berth and its still 25, the sun is out and I'm really looking forward to dinner in one of the magnitude of restaurants here. Please keep flogging your message so that others are discouraged.

Downside €22 for a glass of fizz, but if I don't spend my money then who will?

Equally catastrophic here in Antibes this evening. Blue skies and sunshine and it is very pleasant sitting here armed with my mug of builders tea (what else would you expect?). I suspect supper in the Transat is in order. (Although, does anyone know where I can get a kebab within about 20mins of Port Vauban??)

Cheers
Jimmy

Well, the honest answer is that there will be, but I don't have a timeframe in mind yet. I need to figure out where is the best place to get the boat lifted and blocked off for a bit. Depends if you want a winter trip or a summer holiday I guess!

I didn't say everywhere is awful, just these two places, being the only ones I've been to! My point was why do the rich go there to be gawked at when there are obviously many other great places. You've got to be a real saddo if your only pleasure is posing.

Thanks MYAG. You can never have too many kebab shops. I will try jrudges recommendation tonight, and go from there.

I bet you can't get a kebab in St Trop though. If that is the case, the OP is quite right, it's bound to be somewhat suboptimal.

Cos there is a cracking beach round the headland called Pampelonne ( google it)
Also a little Private air port nearby La Mole , with service flights to places like Sion in Switzerland .
They go there to have fun / holiday etc, Gawking is what the " Plebs " do ,most rich owners I suspect would prefer anonymity and hide in there villas , transferring often by helicopter in/ out of the area or to La Mole / Nice / Mandelieu airports
Charter punters can be spotted by 1 a large shoe basket,2 they always have a drink in hand and sit in full view.I suspect this what you really saw ?
Place de Lices ( at the back of the town 5 mins from the port )holds a typical French market most mornings , cafes here are reasonable
