I've just had a claim settled within 3 weeks (not as big as your claim)
Well pleased with St Margarets, thats why I have been with them for 20 plus years, always had good service.

Hi
Ive been with them 12years had a theft claim 3 years ago paid out £8000after their surveyor inspected boat.

This one is the total loss of Mast rigging sails and cordage all deck stanchions starboard side.
The 4x12mm dia chain bolts sheared off when we were hit by a huge gust of aprox 60knt off a small island in Cyclades ,boat completly knocked down, both sails filled with water. Localcharter boat owner said i was not the first and that two yachts had same thing happen, last year in this area.

St Margarets sent out their surveyor who inspected yacht and said that it was a accident as he could find no stress damage to the starboard bolts. all these bolt were changed by myself 2005 and 2001 and 1996

I am now waiting for the costing from yard to be sent to insurance co Who as of now have not said a word?

cheers bobt

Only one view of them, but not too popular in our club as they refuse to insure on our moorings and rejected my mate's claim for damage through vandalism whilst ashore for repairs on the grounds that the boat was not seaworthy!

To be fair I've not yet seen a marine insurance that doesn't have a get-out clause for every eventuality...

I am currently insured with them however up for renewal at the end of the month.

My policy states that the sails and rigging are not covered if blown away by the wind while the vessel is being used.

IS this normal for an insurance policy? if I were to be dismasted reading the above, the cost of it would have to come out of my pocet.

I think this is strange bearing in mind that I supposedly have a fully comp policy - am contemplating going just third party for this reason.

I think very few companies will cover damage to the sails by the wind while set. This is another reason for not leaving a roller furling genoa in place: if it comes unravelled in a gale, it's not covered.

I would read that as sails etc giving way not mast falling down. And all sails if used long enough evertually tear - they are consumeables. I wouldnt expect an insurance company to replace knackered sails.

Mind you I wouldnt expect £35k for a mast and sails and stanchions on an oild boat either. A 13m mast for my 36ft boat is £4k, sails £3k. Life must be expensive in Greece

The price surveyor said was e30000 -e35000 it seemed high to me,I hope it cheeper, as at the time of incident 107 to the £ .
There over e2500 of winches on the mast ,roller reefing ,sail bag and lazy jacks ,all lines back to cockpit ,Bimini frame and cover torn away ,all lights and damage to hull and toerail ,it all adds up.
And still no answer

5 Years ago I had a newish spinnaker blow out when we were hit by a "hoolie" gust in otherwise moderate conditions. Came out of nowhere.

Although it was standard racing risks cover that doesn't cover sails when set, I stuck a claim form in.

Got a phone call from the claims manager who pointed out that although not strictly covered under the terms of the cover, they would pay the claim!!!!!

Now got two boats covered with them - GJW

Hi all
I have just had a phone call from St Margarets explaining the delay.
It would appear that the boat yard .Olyimpic marine Greece, has been closed for the month of August and have not sent them the cost/quotation for the work.
Must say very helpful conversation

cheers bobt
