St Kats have added mooring strops to their waiting bouys in order to make them easier to pick up. They were made by the firm that did Stonehenge and are robust to say the least. They must be 4 inch diameter (100 mm?) and I would be doubtful that they would go through many fair leads or anchor rollers; best to pick them up and put one of your lines through them.

When me and Paul went last year, getting hold of the poxy thing was a real PITA as they're a funny shape so lassoing from a mobo was difficult. Got it on the 3rd attempt. Nice bit of rope to grab with a hook should make things a lot easier.

Now lets see how many people run them over and get tangled......

I used to visit every year, but now they roger you senseless on the price I've stopped going. Shame as we loved it really.

Any recommendations as to where we can all get a central London room with view under £80.00 a night (11m boat) would be most welcome and if the difficulty of getting in there is anything to go by, the price does not seem a obstacle for most.
A quick check of all the London marinas including South Dock, Limehouse, Chelsea and even a club visit to West India shows that St Kats is not that much more expensive, especially taking the location into account.
Anybody know what Limehouse visitor charges are for 2018/19,website search curiously only produces fees from two years ago.

Join the CA and use their rooms in CA House at Limehouse... Limehouse is much preferred to St Katz IMHO, the DLR is VERY adjacent, the place is more peaceful, better access and cheaper. The walk to the Tube from St Katz is much longer. AS for price Limehouse is £4.25/m, St Katz £8.03/m for 10m... Nearly double?????

£8 per m, ouch!

Recently it has been the case that their weekly rates represented better value but I haven't checked this year's prices.

The weekly rate isn't too bad (relatively.) We paid something like £430.00 for a week for a 13m boat over Xmas. The 3 days extra we wanted on top would have tipped it over into the £700 bracket.

Anyone used Gallions Point Marina recently? We stopped over there about 15 years ago before it was properly developed. It has a couple of DLR stations nearby.

Stopped there about 6 years ago, terrible place. The surrounding area looked a bit like Beirut, stab vests needed instead of life jackets. Highly recommended to give a wide berth, unless it's dramatically changed since we were there.

No price rise since 2016, no wonder BWML are flogging it off as a drain on the budget and those
Free "for a select few " moorings cannot be making much financial sense.
Some hedge fund must surely be waiting to pounce for slice of the action ?

What would be stopping you buying a CRT visitors licence and using the free mooring?

Will let you know what it is like later this year. It's where we are getting picked up again with the trailer.

Still undecided whether we are having our last night at Gallions Point or spending the last night at St Kats and having an early morning run down to Gallions Point the next day to be picked up.

To be fair, its £88 for 11m or, for example, if you have an old 80's princess or such like, and were honest about the length including bathing platform, davits, dinghy etc, it could be £96 a night plus electric on top. Call it a round £100.

Alternatively, stay in the Tower hotel from £87 per night and save around £300 on diesel :D

It used to be very affordable, only a few years ago, and I went in there regularly. Now I bypass it on the way to and from the non-tidal as I think the prices are excessive and the service is still the same, from what I hear.

Gallions Reach is closing down.

Is this true? The latest news I can find on the internet is that it was due to go to court around May 2017 but I can't find anything more recent. Its closure would be a great pity; apart from the low prices (but then not a lot in return in terms of facilities), the tide window for the lock is the best of the London marinas.

Further to the low prices, if it's still the case, beware the added charges to lock in and out.

Mods: shouldn't this thread be better placed on the Thames forum?

*splutter*..£1300 per month for a westerly oceanlord? Pretty sure that's gone up one heck of a lot since I last looked 4 years ago.

21.6p per kwH? Isn't that illegal? I thought they have to supply at cost. Premier charge a perfectly reasonable 15p per kWh including VAT and service charge. Where are these folks getting the addition 6-and-a-bit p from?
