After all the bickering is over, no matter who is right, one place which definitely needs a good lifeboat is Jersey !

I hope they have SAR helicopter cover of some kind too, after the madness of closing HMS Osprey at Portland ?
 
I've been firmly in the 'Mistakes on both sides, best wishes to all involved' camp up to now. However, it occurred to me today that Andy has irreconcilably fallen out with the RNLI, the Jersey CG & at least one St Helier Harbour Master.

What's the common denominator here?

Also, if he starts an independent lifeboat (I'm all in favour of those) how is he going to work with the Jersey CG?

There is a SAR aircraft based in Guernsey which covers the CI and adjacent French coast. Both the French and the UK provide helicopter cover.

Humm might just be similar to the changes for the better with the First Aid Afloat courses, they now teach the giving of First Aid in a confined space similar to that found on a boat, not just rolling around in a Village Hall or Classroom; so very different a scenario ?
Perhaps the Fire Fighters are not necessarily used to Fighting a fire in a confined space, like that found on a Boat ?

You get a few sparks when the fuse blows then you are Ok. By the time the firemen get there the electrics will be fried anyway & the fire will be GRP wood etc & the problem will be fumes from burning plastic not electrics. ( plus the odd exploding gas canister, in which case most firemen just stand back & wait for the bang & duck.) Well they did when one of my site huts went up.. The canister uncoils like a big spring & goes about 20 ft into the air. After that they can put the fire out - if anything is left to put out.

But you get the idea. Cannot be rocket science can it. different if it was a ferry or something like that - in which case crew are usually trained & priority is evacuating passengers.
Assuming you can find a life boat of course !!!!
