I have just registered my boat on the SSR. I used the online application which took 5 minutes and cost £12. One week later the registration document has arrived. I cant believe it was that simple! Am I missing something?

I now want to get the new name printed. I have the name, the SSR registration number, but what about the home port? Are there any regulations about that? I have seaeched the www.mcga.gov.uk website but cant find anything. The boat will be moored in the south of france but as it is UK registered I guess the home port has to be a UK one.

Apologies if this is a stupid question!

thanks

So it keeps the French happy (thats what i want!), it's cheap (nice) and get to chose a silly place for the home port (even better).

I may be missing the point here, but with SSR registration, you just need the SSR number on the transom or thereabouts. Boat name fine, but home port is not needed.

Almost better these days to not put a home port on.(which you can with SSR) Not everyone abroad loves the Brits and maybe someone wants to score a few points using a British boat as an example It's best therefore to keep a low profile especially when you leave your boat for weeks at a time in the Med. Maybe also don't choose a typically English boat name.

I think you are missing the point. The SSR has been set up to give us boaters a cheap and easy way to satisfy foreign officials. In that sense it is fantastic, as the alternative would be for us to spend hundreds getting pt 1 when we really don't need it. For once the British have taken a more continental attitude to following the rules.

I agree that it doesn't prove ownership but then if you require that you have the option of Pt 1.
