squatting to become a criminal offence

Squatters

I'm right glad to see this - we've been having problems for almost a year with B*stards in a flat we bought to supplement our pension. They now owe £12000 in rent with no chance of recovery, and the courts seem to take ages to complete a simple task !!:(

May not help you I'm afraid, assuming you mean they have rented and have fallen behind with their payments:

Quote: Someone who falls behind with their rent or remains in a property at the end of a lease or tenancy would not be committing an offence under the new law.

At last the police have some criminal legislation to deal with. Basically its what they have always wanted. The same call 'as suspects' on. IE burglars on premises and the full police powers and response come to bear. At long last some powers that the police and home owners have wanted for decades. :)

Perhaps those that go off on extended trips can some back to the home they left without having to resort to legal fees and 3 months in rented accommodation as some good friends
of its had to for recently.
