I have been trying to clean my acrylic canvas sprayhood 'windows' (soft clear plastic) without success. They have, along the bottom edge, a white deposit that looks for all the world like it should be salt that has dried on. When dry it is white and almost opaque, when wet it becomes colourless and almost 'disappears'. I have tried lots of water/detergent and fairly vigourous rubbing with a sponge. They have been through the washing machine with soap type washing powder. I have tried vinegar, in case it's limescale but nothing seems to move it. Any ideas please?

I had exactly the same problem.

In addition to what you have done I treated with, brasso, T cut, toothpaste , that gel stuff sold by chandlers for cleaning clear plastic.

In the end I trotted down to wilkinson sails and had a new window put in.
That last course of action was the only one that worked!

if you want to install new plastic windows yourself then its an easy job with a sewing machine.

To ensure you get a perfect fit and dont distort the overall shape of the sprayhood the trick is to sew the new windows on top of the old ones. Then (very carefully!) cut the old 'glass' away along the cloth line leaving a margin of the old glass permanently in place.

Hmmm, that's a pain. I'll probably not do anything then. It's only on one window and only maybe the bottom inch. I didn't even notice it when the hood was on the boat. Trouble is I'll notice it everytime I look next year:mad:
Thanks for the replies.

I believe it is not a stain, but a discolouring that can occur when they dry. Marque windows go like that if put away damp.

Let the sprayhood dry with it up....

I've had good results with Meguiar's Plast-RX but for fogged windows, not sure if what I had is same as what you've got, but worth a try I'd say...
