I'm looking to replace the Sprayhood, Sail cover, Dodgers and Rigging on Rowana.

Where is the best place in Scotland for the above? I'm hopeing to take them all off and drive somewhere and have replacements made up from the patterns.

TIA

Think you may find this could cost you fair bit with the main west coast big names, ie. saturn, owen, north. At least you've got the frames. Have you considered doing this yourself, or seem to recall a cheaper supplier near Newcastle. Perhaps someone will know the name?

Ok mentioned, Saturn, Owen and North. Two other, possibly lesser known:
Jessail 01294 467311 or 07771 97578 - Ardrossan
Covercraft 07918 641963 email: marinecovers@aol.com - Kip
The east coast one, possibly Berwick-upon-Tweed to Newcastle area, hopefully someone will know.
Worth calling around and comparing prices. As for the rigging, you didn't say whether it was running or standing (or both). There was a post just the other day with costs etc. for standing rigging, worth a search if thats what you're after.

Ferry Marine at Port Edgar 0131 331 1233 (I've used them for a small rigging job)

Owen sails have a branch at Port Edgar as well 0131 331 4949

There's Lossie Sails 07989 956 698 (near Lossiemouth, surprise surprise) who may be worth a call although she was a bit expensive for the work I was looking for.

Didn't get much change from £1K last year for stackpack and sprayhood cover (no frames) from Owen. Since then have read several posts of others paying much less in the south, hence my cautionary call around. That said was pleased with the job.

Just re-read your post and noticed you mentioned rigging as well. Have just had a new set of standing rigging made for Melady Fair by Mast and Rigging Services at Kip Marina, PM me if you want more details. Caley Marine at Inverness will also make rigging up to a certain size before sending it somewhere else.

I think they may insist on measuring up themselves - esp. the sprayhood. You will find the old one will have stretched. I made the same mistake and had to recut it twice.

You could make your own template on their instruction if the maker was willing to work that way.

That's the one, Storrar /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Friends on east coast have had spray hoods and covers made. Very highly praised.

I have just repaired a sprayhood and hope to get next season out of it, however I was considering new and contacted Jane Hewitt in Co Durham on canvascraft@hotmail.co.uk she appeared to be able to manufacture from the old parts as a pattern and seemed reasonable. Mind I reiterate I have not yet used the service so can not vouch for quality

I've just had standing rigging quotes from Ferry Marine (around £700) and Ardfern Yacht Centre (around £1100 [!!]). Thats for my 26 footer, masthead rig with 6mm 1x19 wire. Both those seem a bit high so I'll try a few more distant places.

Ferry Marine are within reach, but there's no real difference for me dealing with a Clyde or West Coast outfit, compared to somewhere down in England.

Rowana is 8metres which is about 26 feet, so I think my cost would be similar. Ferry Marine sounds about the ball-park figure I had in mind, so I'll give them a call.

Thanks Tony

Thanks to all for your input.

If anyone is up Peterhead way, I'll stand you a beer - or three /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
