My boat is 10 years old and she is starting to look a little middle age lets say. The design is modern with radar arch, big bathing platform and sporty look when the covers are off. She is a 36ft sports cruiser with a complete white hull and topsides in white. The condition is excellent but not white like new.

I do like the look of navy hulls like Sunseeker and Fairline is my favourite. When walking on the dock very close to these boats you can see the Fairline finish is best.

So my question is, is it possible to spray my hull from above the boot line stripe to the hull joint similar to a Targa 34?

I only wish to consider professional company to carry out the work and I also wish to specify the correct colour and how can I receive the correct RAL colour code please ?

Personally I don't see how a proper polish wont have your hull looking like new. If it really needs it a wet sanding followed by polish and wax will definitely restore it to new.

Rather than spray painting the hull another idea would be vinyl wrapping the boat. If you decide the colour is not for you after a few years it can be pealed back. for example http://www.wildgroupinternational.com/Services/Colour-Change

If you are going to spray it awlgrip is the way forward http://www.awlgrip.com/awlgrip-home.aspx

+1 spraying a boat is bad news the least little scratch will leave a white gouge & will soon look much worse than the gel coat A good sand & polish should get it back to shiney

the wrap idea would probs be a better compormise as it can be removed & redone easily

The final wrap website shows a case study on a Sunseeker 39 sports cruiser. Exactly what I'm looking for thanks.

I appreciate your comment regarding the original hull but my idea is to give the old girl a bit of a mid life face lift with up to date hull colour, new cushions, covers and fake teak in cockpit and side decks. All cosmetic changes as she is well maintained and totally reliable for a few more years in the family.

if you do paint, seriously consider Awlgrip as nothing else is as good as Awlgrip G-line

Get some compound and elbow grease on the hull, then polish it, ours is 30 years old and comes up like new every two years. Mind you she does not stay like that because we use her for fishing. Do not paint, especially blue, it will fade in no time.

If you decide to paint, use either Awlgrip or Alexseal. Forget finding an RAL - unless you want a big-€€€€ special mix you just need to choose from their standard colours. They have a blue the same as fairline's.

With Awlgrip you have to choose between awlgrip and awlcraft2000. You may find opinions split 50/50. Awlcraft 2000 is generally regarded as slightly easier to scratch but it's much easier to fix scratches, and I used it for my dashboards recently

If you are modernising the boat maybe think about silver or something, as an alternative to navy blue. Each to their own - I'm just throwing in the idea

Thank you JFM.

I will obtain pricing in the coming weeks for paint and vinyl. At the moment I am tempted to go with the vinyl in navy blue and silver stripe similar to the case study on website.

Any recommendations for fake teak?

I am suprised your white gelcoat is un recoverable with a good cut and polish, white should still be OK at that age.

I have a blue gelcoat hull and at 11 years with 6 of those in portugal mine was past it and after a cut and polish it last 6 to 8 weeks before it went smeary and then dull andd chalky.

I had it sprayed blue by Berthon over November 2012 with Awlgrip and I am pleased with it. They also spray new Sunseekers, Princess and others when a customer wants a different colour for a stock boat.

Give me a Pm with your number if you want to discuss.

+1
The Vinyl will be in the region of £2k

Quick, clean, can be removed, doesn't fade in the sun, doesn't need maintaining ( apart from a wipe down ) Resistant to scratching and ..... can patch almost invisibly yourself an an hour or so with a spreading tool and a few cloths and a knife. Don't like the colour, change it without hundreds of hours of work.

It seems a no brainer to me and I am seriously considering it for Cariad.
