Sports-fisher with twin 300s

Yep, get Navionics on the ipad, again on your phone as a back up, and cast off the ropes!

ps. I have loads of free time Mark, so would be more than happy to join you for the trip across, then fly back.

Magnum, be careful what you agree to, in a minute Nick'll be asking you to return the favour with his new boat. Which is in Greece. :D

The Boston Whaler 320 Outrage is perfect for my needs. Found a US company that can ship to Southampton on a cradle. Not sure exactly how portable this cradle is but I then need to get it to St. Helier and then in the water. Any ideas folks?
AFAIK, the only company that does a regular freight cargo service to Jersey is Condor http://www.condorferriesfreight.co.uk but as you can see, they go from Poole or Portsmouth and it's a ro-ro service so the boat would have to go on a trailer rather than as deck cargo. I have heard that Condor are pretty pricey too. Possibly worth having a word with Peters and May http://www.petersandmay.com to see if they've got any other ideas

Compass, chart, handheld gps, ipad, Fixed VHF with cigarette lighter connection and temp aerial ??

60nm needles to Alderney. I would be inclined to just drive it over. You will need to clear customs when leaving the UK to avoid paying VAT and ensure you pay GST when bringing it into Jersey.

My guesstimate for shipping would be around £1500 Uk To Jersey ???

I think I'd hire a freight agent (ask Zippy who) to process the papers and TI it into the UK. Then they can handle the shipment and crane hire, and decradle+unload it to the water in Southampton. Then you have all the time in the world to put it in a Southampton marina and await a weather window to drive across. You can lashuply fit basic navionics if you want or use an iPad, and then do the full nav install in Jersey

Also you could buy all the boxes of nav kit bought in US at their rock bottom prices, and have them loaded onto the boat, then TI-ed as part of the overall TI, then fitted in Southampton or Jersey as you choose. Not sure about pilferage risk but the boat must have a locked cabin and will be shrink wrapped, right?

Nick & LJS, thanks for the offer of help. I'll bear it in mind.

JFM, cheers also. I could get the Nav Kit installed in the US, but unsure if there are any US/UK compatibility issues. If it's just chart data then that would make sense.

There is compatibility problem with VHF sets because US/RoW use different frequencies for each channel number. You can spec a Europe format VHF though, which are widely available because of course US made boats are sold widely in Europe and vice versa. Novurania offered to fit a Europe spec VHF set to my RIB

Chartplotters sold in US often have a US basemap but you should be able to order the EU basemap version, but this is neither here nor there because you'll be using a Europe SD card anyway to get all the sexy features. The basemaps, whether Europe or US, don't have all the bells and whistles. These are not restricted in terms of availability - on my previous boats I have bought- in UK- on Europe basemap version for one unit and US basemap version for the second unit, so I have pretty much whole-world basemapping (Lawd knows why - I was having an anorak moment!)

Other than that, there are no compatibility issues I can think of

I have done a fair amount of training on these boats in the Middle East. Last one had tripple 250's on it! Rather a waste in my view - twin 300 would have done the same job. But then that is the ME for you.

Dunno exactly about the BW320, but I guess she has no genset and AC equipment, right?
Because if she would, obviously there's the "usual" 50/60 hz issue.
Btw, I've seen many US boats in that size bracket which, even if they don't have a genset, still have an AC dock connection to feed a battery charger while moored - again, same issue.
Nothing major anyway, just a matter of speccing the right equipment, if you're buying new. Or replacing a few bits, if used.

And in smaller size brackets - my Novurania 4.3m has a factory installed batt charger and 110v mini dock connection. I have 110v 60Hz on the boat (for the subzero fridges) so it works fine

I'm planning to go to Alderney this year, open to dates so if it fits in we could shadow you over for it's maiden trip. Or even a forum trip??

How about one of these with 1,670 HP :D
