It can help to lower the trimflaps, they dampen the oscillations quite effectively on some boats.

I'm miles better after only a few hours at it. Letting go between nudges helps. The AP definitely steers better than I do.

I had a 2755 as a first boat, thoroughly enjoyed it, and as everyone has said they can wander like a drunk at slow speeds, especially until you learn not to overcorrect and very susceptible to getting blown about by a breeze while you're trying to dock.
Mine had a 7.4 V8 in it and it could hit 41 knots on a good day. Taught me a lot about legs and trimming and of course petrol wasn't the price it is now, a fast cruise from the Medway to Eastbourne was at the top end of it's range, using 60 gallons (not litres in them days) but we were able to have many a happy time on it.......at sea or in the estuary.
Would I have enjoyed using it on a speed restricted river, certainly not, did it handle a force 5, not very well but on a decent day it was a lot of fun.
We had no problems with the outdrive or engine but that was a considerable time ago so anything with original propulsion would need a very good check.
Also had a little get us home motor fitted on the longer trips, before someone points this out.

If the boat is staying inland a simple cure is to ballast the anchor locker makes a big difference to steering, Try it by getting someone to stand at the bow whilst moving.

They are a pita at low speed, literally lose your concentration for a seond or tow and they are off, now have a sd hull, ooh it's lovely, point wheel in roughly correct direction and away its goes, just like a car.
When we first got our sportts cruiser, we literally could not steer it, and had to get the marina guy to come and park ip up for us, in fairness it was a good reliable boat and we had it for 8yrs, but like all first time buyers we bought soft top/petrol/planing hull/sterndrive, wont be doing any of them things again!
