Hello, my name is Samantha Fox and I am planning a leisurely cruise of 7 years or more on my boat. However, I have a dilemna. I will surely need sponsorship for this endeavour because I'm a woman, not a man, and I don't now much about boats, and there don't seem to be many chick skippers out there and well, all the men who reply to my ad on 7 knots just don't seem to realise that I'm not looking for a relationship. I am looking for sailing skills.
So, can you see my dilemna? Sponsorship will allow me to pay big bucks for a professional so that I can laze around on the bowsprit striking Titanic poses. If I'm able to pay for a skipper, it will mean that I have more power to fend off amorous advances.
Please help me. I just don't know what to do. It's hard being a woman with a boat.

Samantha,

You obviously have plenty of assets. You just need to get them on page three of a tabloid paper and the funds will pour in.

I hope this helps. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Oi !! Perkins, I know it`s you, get to the back of the queue, Steve and me was here first,
Mind you my ocean crossing stage is looking a bit shaky at the moment , er perhaps we could team up, you could do the posin and I`ll do the skipperin, No need to worry yourself about relationships as I`m an Englishman, we only do that sort of thing by request.
So all you`ll have to do is to show me where the throttles are and we’re off.

Err, do you think it would be alright if I brought my mum?

..........

Trailer trash? Why is it that the new users are always the most cutting?
And what does IMHO mean? I've only just figured out USA and UN. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

In My Humble Opinion your original post was intended to be cutting, n'est-ce pas?

Sou da! I just couldn't resist.
Anyway, it seems that our Steve is more fired up than ever to complete his mission and he just knows that wheel be following him every pedal of the way.

Hi. I run a company called Tartan Fish Ltd. , so you being called codstewart is just the advertising opportunity we are looking for. I can't see any nutty adverts on 7knots.com but nevertheless please advise how much loot you want and i will orgainse a cheque for the first year.

I missed the first bit of all this - the boat is in mexico and you are in japan, is that correct?

Yes, the boat is in Mexico and I am in Japan. This is part of the draw of this adventure. You see, I will have to swim from Japan to Mexico before starting, and this is where I hope to be able to raise the most money. It hasn't been done before and I might as well be the first to do it.

You don't need a sponsor - pull that blog into a single manuscript, find an agent and there's your income - You've even got the title "A Fish in .... ." An insane diary for people who can read. (No offence intended. I think you might have something that could/might keep you ticking over financially for a while.) You might even rethink publishing it for free, like you are doing just now? No, I'm not an agent, just someone who writes a bit.

Thanks, Uisteach
I must say that the thought had crossed my minds - to write a book, that is. It's something that my grandfather always encouraged me to do, as he absolutely loved any letter that I wrote to him. He always said that I had a gift that should be tapped.
This is sounding all poncey and airy fairy now and I'm sure we all snigger at folks like me who are considering writing a book, but hey, I'd love to try and I'll certainly have time enough[umm, maybe not] whilst afloat on Arigato Jack.
Whatever happens, thank you very much for the encouragement.
Ja ne.

No worries, you've probably got half a book already. People snigger, but they don't tend to buy boats and sail oceans. Write because they can't keep their imagination inside. Every rich minute another moment of possibilities. Not missing this life through sleepwalking the days away. Your grandfather was right, so best just to give in and get on with it.
