All the boats I have owned I left a ditty bag or box with tools and material for bosuns work yet every boat I acquire lacks such a thing.My last boat had a collection of odd sized spanners and a hammer with half a handle

Likewise, Wansworth. We carry tools for any engine job I'd attempt myself, plus a couple of spare Sta-locks, a multimeter, screwdrivers for every screw, the large ring spanner for the folding pivots, and of course the splicing fids. My wife reads at anchor, I fiddle about. The big ring spanner did come with the boat, along with the usual rusty pliers and a bucket of red paste.
