They are similar to what I have on my halyards on a much smaller boat. They work well, but I find that releasing them can be quite tough. The tension in the halyard tends to force them closed tightening the grip on the rope.

Have them on my new boat, bought this year, (Sadler 25) and have found they work well so far this season.

So just re tension then raise the lever, simples init

Yes if it leads to a winch - my halyards do, but my reefing lines don't. I have sailed many boats the size of the OPs - some have a convenient winch for the reefing lines and some don't.
