Have some blue vinyl cockpit cushions . Vinyl seems to be seamless in covering white dense foam . Unfortunately a RAT (Roland ) chewed one edge about 2 feet long and 2 inches wide .Lucky for me he did not favour this particular meal for long Pity he was no good at haircuts or splicing rope

Any one any experience in patching/welding this material ?

You can do it but it won't be invisible. Locktite do a solution in a tube called Vinylweld. You may have to do a bit of jiggery pokery to hold the two edges together. Or if its got a fair close weave backing on the vinyl you could just put a few stitches in to pull them together, don't pierce the vinyl itself though.
Spread on the vinylweld and leave it for 24 hours.
Won't look "good as new", but will be tidy repair and better than putting a patch on it.

You could ask BottomSiders...

BottomSiders make cushions like you've described. You could always email them and ask what's the best repair solution.
