I'd hate to contradict a French response but I've seen them called cle a pipe debouches (apologies for no accents) and I think clue a pipe describes their shape (which is what I was after) and debouches means they are open ended, but they are not always open ended. It's not a clé à pipe ( which is a stilson, also called clé à tube). In French your model is a clé débouchée.
Hope that helps.
I have a full set-8 through 21 mm hanging in the workshop."L" spanners are what I have always called them. For me their big advantage is that they are single hex and dont slip on corroded or damaged nut or bolt heads.
If they are drilled during manufacture to allow long bolts to go up the middle and through the short end they become far more usefull.
I would not like to be without them.
As a previous poster said, they are big in France- they can be picked up in most Hypermarkets.
What does single hex mean?
