It works the other way round too. a big buoy fender makes a good space hopper. On STS Lord Nelson they have several about 3ft diameter that are big enough even for me.

Hmm... I have visions of you coming alongside a quay and then rebounding across the harbour. I'd think the best way to attach them is to make a net out of cheap polyprop rope, or old mooring lines, which would stop them abrading and bursting as well.

I inherited a couple of 18 inch diameter ball fenders when I bought my Centaur. Great for protecting shiny topsides but, without being crude, can someone suggest the best place to store them when not actually using them as fenders? They don't look very nautical when jammed under the stern rails and are in the way down below.

you could paint them black and hoist them up the mast then claim right of way over everything in sight.

secure them at the foot of the mast to make a giant phallic symbol

tie one each side of the transom and paint a mickey mouse face between them.

just be sure you never let them trail in the water while retrieving them under way - that's the quickest way i know to get an involuntary swim.
