Southwold

Thanks for the video. If you chaps are getting in an hour and a half before LW can anyone advise me with 1metre draught? I've never visited but its top of my list this year. Does LW coincide with slack water?

With 1m you're pretty much ok other than a big spring tide low and even then you wouldn't have to wait long.

Yes it almost coincides with slack water but slack only lasts around 20minutes unless we've got a big high pressure over us.

Just a little update.
We sailed home from Harwich to Southwold today and took a risk and followed a friendly fisherman I know who called out the depths at the three shallow areas we know of.
LW was at 17:30
We entered at 15:50
The least we saw was 2.8m
We draw 2.1m
Quite a big tide today as well so on that basis I reckon I can amend my in and out Max guide for my boat as 1 1/2 hour before and 1 hour after LW.

Came in today at 2 1/2 hours before LW. I draw 2 m and was OK in the approach but touched bottom on the shallow bit on the river. The entrance was a bit rough with a couple of standing waves.

Hmm, you need to keep no more than 40' from the North bank from the lifeboat station to the first floating pontoons. (voyager)

If you cut the corner or wander into the middle you will touch.

I was very conscientious about following the harbour masters instructions exactly and kept close to the north bank until the slight bend when I went to the middle. I did also ground when mooring up on the staging.

Can't resist posting this photo I took there ;-)

Interesting to see, I should think Southwold harbour is a good place to train, you could row against the ebb for several hours and be more or less where you started at the end. :D
