Further to my previous posts a few weeks ago, those of you that offered advice may recall that I was looking at a number of boats of which Southerly were one. Well we went down to Northshore about a month ago and had a look around the factory, an amazing mix of Hi and low tech (low tech meaning hand crafted!). My lady and I were both hugely impressed with the company and the way they build their boats, so much so we decided to buy one.
Yes, with our options we could have nearly bought two Legend 36's but decided that it was the boat for us. We really liked the 135 but thought £350K was too much for our first yacht! As we bought before going to the boat show we had a few niggling doubts about whether we should have waited but at the show we had a real close look at pretty much every other yards boats of comparable size and came away convinced that we made the right choice for us. We bought via our local agent Westwater (titchmarsh marina) and David Cosby the new owner of the boat sales operation was very good indeed. He took our Fairline targa in PX and the deal we agreed was exactly what I wanted to achieve, so we have moved from power to sail in one smooth and easy operation.
To my mind I can see this move becoming more and more common over the next year or so until the used market is flooded with unwanted powerboats........So my thanks to David, and I thoroughly recommend him. My thanks for all the advice that was offered via this forum and I look forward posting our exploits over the next few months.
Cheers!!!
