I am planning on going to the show and wondering how far and where the nearest on street free parking is. Thinking of taking my push bike in the car and then peddling the last leg. Can anyone advise of a good spot?

Free and only 500m walk from the show...

We had 2 days free parking (& camping) last year less than a 10 min walk from the show.
The catch is ..you have to park your car early, before 5.30 am.
We arrived in our vw camper at 4 am, at 5.30 am when the pay booth guy opened up I went to pay the £8 for the day and he said he could only charge vehicles which entered the car park after he arrived and as I was already there he could not charge us. I said I'd be happier if I paid as I didn't want a ticket, he said I had to drive out of the car park and come in again if I wanted to pay but assured me I would not be ticketed and I wasn't.
We were there for 2 days and slept in the van on the car park perimeter with a view of a huge cruise ship.
On return to the van after the second day at the show there was a hand written note on a torn piece of cardboard saying " No overnight camping please "

I'm interested in this, but last year didn't someone post information about a Park and Ride service? That would be ideal for me.

The Park and Ride died out when all the new car parks were built. There is no shortage of car parking within close walking distance of the show, nor normally any delays in getting in and out.

The Premier Park and Ride is aimed at people who keep their boats at the marina or who are guests of the various dealers that work from there. Long ride to the show.

Parking for the PSP Southampton Boat Show

There are 10,000 parking spaces throughout the city centre both in public and privately owned car parks.

For Council owned car parks, download their useful leaflet ‘Parking Southampton’ from http://www.southampton.gov.uk/s-environment/roadsandparking/parking/carparks/ or the Special Discounts Parking.

Or for further details, parking costs and distances to the Show read mroe here...http://www.southamptonboatshow.com/2012/show_info/getting_to_the_show/by_car.aspx

Oooo as you have come alive again there is a post on the mobo forum that could do with an answer...Cheers...

'Free' parking at the IBIS Hotel (within easy walking distance) however think they charge about £150 B & B per night boat show weekend...normally about £30....the really funny thing is the bed is a piece of chipboard with a mattress !

Its cheap enough in the shopping centre car park opposite for all day parking for me and never not found a space. Car parking costs are insignificant if you actually intend to buy anything at the show. Any marginal bargains are offset by the entry fee anyway. Sometimes wonder why I go but then remember it feeds the dream of the type of yacht I could have if ever those lottery number come up.

I work for Premier Marinas and thought you would be interested to hear about the 'Park and Ride' service that we’re offering from Swanwick Marina to the PSP Southampton Boat Show 2012.

For just £12 per person, you can park your car all-day at Swanwick and enjoy a return coach journey to the Southampton Boat Show, plus receive a complimentary boat show ticket!

New for this year – Premier is also offering a 'family ticket' for £30 which includes the ‘Park and Ride’ service for two adults and up to four children – plus two free Southampton Boat Show tickets (each adult ticket admits two children under 15).

THIS PACKAGE IS OPEN TO ANYONE WANTING TO VISIT THE SOUTHAMPTON BOAT SHOW

To purchase your tickets, simply call or visit your local Premier marina in advance of the show. The package will be available to buy at Swanwick Marina on the day of travel; however priority for the Park and Ride will be given to those who purchase in advance from their local Premier marina (Brighton, Chichester, Falmouth, Gosport, Port Solent, Southsea, Sovereign Harbour in Eastbourne or Swanwick marina on the River Hamble).

Once you’ve finished at the Southampton Boat Show, hop back on the coach to Swanwick Marina and enjoy Swanwick's 33rd Used Boat Show (14th – 23rd September) where you can view a wide selection of new and used boats courtesy of our leading brokers onsite including; Ancasta; Dickies; Princess Motor Yacht Sales; Sunseeker and Walton Marine.

You can visit www.premiermarinas.com/parkandride for more.

+1 ... I seem to remember it was only a tenner for the whole day - I had 5 in the car so less than £2 a head, and the car park is a 100 yards from the entrance..... :p

Why bother? I always park in the multistory next to the show, IIRC it has never cost me more than £8 for the whole day! I am as tight as the next man BUT for the sheer convenience it cant be beaten!
