Southampton boat show ( Boats2020) cancelled

I was about to post the same so that people could not waste a journey. Sad to have to cancel but wise in my view.....

For some reason the original thread has been pulled. Why is a mystery but given many on here would be visiting and there have been no emails to ticket holders informing them I thought I would repost it.

BOATS2020 cancelled over Southampton City Council fears - Southampton International Boat Show

I did receive an email last night informing me I now have a credit for next years show !

Ironically this was the first boat show ticket I have purchased EVER !

I know many exhibitors there and while they have had a cracking season this was their last chance to ditch (sorry move on) stock for the winter.

I can just see the reception at Holiday Inn right now. Yes sir here is your full ten day up front payment back ....

They should have pulled it on Wednesday, organisers are so desperate for events to happen they seem blind to the reality of new guidelines.

Even a day would have saved thousands.

I am aware it was the council and not BM.

Not sure why post was pulled either.

Genoa in 2 1/2 weeks from 1/6 Oct is still on .
A few boat exhibiters are mustering here in Loano , shiny un sun faded boats .
Spoke at length yesterday to one and he thinks it’s 50/50 ? Not sure , but at the same time was prepared to call his hot prospects and get them on board here so to speak , if it was cancelled .....show exhibitors know the risks I think !

The numbers ( Corvid ) in Italy are only rising a bit , not worrying like Fr and now parts of the UK .
I think Cannes was scrubbed within 2 weeks as Covid numbers started to soar in the Nice area .

How ever the 2020 Ferretti Monaco preview went ahead ...it’s a W/E invitation only do .We could nit make it anyhow , but would not have gone ...common sense as you don‘t know where or how other guests have traveled from .
Same issue with Genoa , the range of crowd mix from all over mingling .Accept ( boats 2020 ^^ ) is probably not that international, buts it’s still in my view a unnecessary crowd gathering in a global pandemic .

So the Ferretti fleet has gathered basically but no where to go .They will be dispersed about , or returned to the owners .
Ferretti don’t normally exhibit per se at Genoa , but they let the odd dealer send a statement boat.

Yes the smaller trade guys would suffer , Genoa has a huge trade hall, it feels spacious even in a normal year .
We are about 1 hr away , but won‘ t go this year out of common sense.

Anyhow ....watch out as the event draws close .
Must say night before scrub is a bit hard for all .2 weeks fine .

That must be quite annoying for the exhibitors who got all set up, only for it to be cancelled at the last minute.

Someone should at least shoot some video / drone footage of what is there.

Had an e-mail from Princess early this morning saying they have pulled all their stock and moved it to Swanwick. No time wasted there.

Good Morning

Unfortunately we have to inform you that Southampton Boats 2020 has been cancelled as of yesterday evening, as a result of a late decision from Southampton City Council.

Therefore we have moved the Princess Yachts display in its entirety over to Southampton’s Swanwick Marina, where we will be able to follow the very latest Government guidelines to the letter.

The full Princess display will be available to view at Swanwick Marina, SO31 1ZL, from 10 am Friday morning, so we look forward to welcoming you there. We are totally prepared to receive all pre-existing appointments and ticket holders.

Please do take the opportunity to come and visit us over the next 10 days, all prior appointment times are still standing and we will be open daily from 10am to 6pm. Also present at Swanwick, are a small selection of Princess brokerage yachts and representatives from our YachtQuarters, Saxdor, Argo Yachting and Chris-Craft teams.

Any questions don’t hesitate to contact us on 01489 557755 or sales@princess.co.uk. We look forward to seeing you soon as planned.

Kind Regards

Princess Motor Yacht Sales, Argo Yachting and Chris-Craft UK & Balearics

I’m impressed by Princess. It looks like they had fully prepared for various scenarios and had contingency plans in place.

Wise? Seriously?
The council banned it.
I hope the boat show moves to a better city in future years and Southampton loses the revenues.

Agreed. The show was deemed Covid secure on Wednesday but on Thursday it wasnt. There is nothing in the new govt guidelines that would have caused that. My guess is that the council bowed to a vocal minority in the area petrified about 'incomers'. I feel very sorry for the exhibitors and the hard pressed local businesses that would have benefited from the show

It was very well organised, no crowds and appointment only.

Yes Indeed wise but too late..... Peoples lives are important

So are jobs and prosperity. There are risks to our health everywhere in our lives, even at home. There has to be a balance between reducing that risk and not endangering our prosperity so much that life isnt worth living, not to mention the fact that our kids and grandkids will be paying for this through higher taxes and lower incomes
