Hi all
Does anyone have any recent experiences of any ports/anchorages along the south of Italy?
We are travelling to Malta from the Ionian and wonder if there are any stops worth going to before getting to Sicily.

We nearly always do it in one go , paxoi , Lefkes,Corfu straight to Siracusa, the time we have broken up the trip we cross to Le Castella ont the East coast of the leg , you can anchor in the bay or go in the harbour and find a free berth on the fisherman quay , else there a small Marina there too if that's what your into. . Then crossed to Sicily from there .
On Sicily you can stop in Catania where you can anchor just behind the harbour wall or use one of the Marina , we alway manage to find a free Berth where the fisherman go , after that it has to be Siracusa, not to be missed , I have put some note on the Med sailing site about it this year , if you not see it , it's best to call HC up and tell them you want to anchor or go on the quay , they are very friendly forget what you read about fined , on the quay it five days free although there is a 10 euros a day rubbish free , it does upset some people , not sure why they don't charge 10 euros and call it mooring fee .
From there it's straight to Malta or if you want to break the trip up its 23 miles to Porto paulo then 53 mile to Malta .
Again if you plainning to stay there another write up on noonsite I did early in the year on Malta .
Safe trip

Many thanks Vic.
Yeah looks a better option to go straight to Sicily as nowhere looks very inviting on the coast!
Will check your other posts which are always very informative so thanks again!
Are you going back to Malta for the winter?

Things do change with us ,
but yes at the moment we plain to get back mid Dec and spend three months in Msida Marina .
We only left Malta three days ago after a short break to see people ,
now on our way up the east coast of Sicily to the Aeolian islands to revisit them ,
maybe even pop over to Naples, to see if it's change much since last time we was there .
