So we have decided to leave our north Wales base after 10 years of cruising the Irish Sea . We are first on the berth list for a 42ft boat , if this does not happen which I don’t think it will, so we are looking for a berth .
questions
1, Do you know of any berths
2 can you describe the Marina ie + - tide gate
we do not want southampton , no offence meant. Thanks for replies. SS

ps don’t forget to put your fenders out , my MiChelin ones are very good.

Weymouth , staying with Boatfolk will help get you a berth because like every marina they are very. Jay.
staff are great and berthing fees are reasonable for South Coast

cheers

If Weymouth does not attract due to the pesky bridge unless you can go under it before opening ?Portland seems to have loads of space or if non marina location appeals there are mooring buoys/balls down towards where the RFA tie up. If however Gosport appeals plenty of choice particularly if you have a shallow draft -just don’t be surprised at even boatfolk prices in Solent marina though .

The hamble really to busy , don’t like S city centre, we prefer closer to Devon , as we are wanting to explore the Brittany coast.
Yeah it's busy, but not too busy. Plus it's slap bang in the middle of all the best places. If you go east, then you need to travel a far way to get to the west marks. And vice verse ..

Dartmouth, good cruising area, locally and Chanel Isles, marines have good facility's , we would move there but to far to drive, (we tried it ) we chose East cowes Isle of Wight as close to Solent plus in middle, takes us same time as would to drive down to Portsmouth including ferry crossing,

Parking is a problem on the Dart, we live there, but need to be able to walk to the dinghy, a marina berth is too expensive for us.

We looked at Cornwall as well but parking was even worse.

Exploring the Brittany coast is very pleasant. You'll be glad you did, although you won't see many other British motor cruisers there for some reason.

You could also keep her in Brittany for a season, or as long as you liked, and travel out there by ferry. That's what I do and it works out very economically and saves tedious Channel crossings in a small boat. It might also save you a lot of fuel.

Portland would be my target, prices a bit more modest and a first stop in Cherbourg or Channel Isles gets you across the Channel conveniently. Direct West Country crossings are usually over 100 miles with a greater chance of unwelcome head seas.

What I like about Poole is to the left of harbour entrance, you have all the Solent 1/2 hours away (closer to 2hrs for Chichester area) and to the right you can be in the West Country in about 4 ish hours (give or take conditions etc) with stops at Weymouth / Portland on the way. It sort of feels like your “in the middle” a bit

Rich , if you can get me something in Salcombe you get free bacon butties for life.
Dropped a Fairline 50 off there last Saturday
Got to move Her on soon as able
To Wales!
Could loosen a few ropes or tow a couple away
Anything you want for those Butties your Missus makes!
We parked just by the Lifeboat for two nights
Then went up the creek and turned left
Cos it was 15 quid cheaper!
I could threaten to stay there if they don’t let you in
That might swing it
Plus
Up the Dart just round the corner?
