Assuming that survey and sea trial all go well we are planning on leaving our next boat on the south coast for a month or three so that we can experience new cruising grounds before taking her round the coast to our east coast base.

Haslar asking £72 per metre per month, which isn’t cheap but I am guessing it is what you pay in the south (boat is 10.5m). Could get a mid-river club pontoon in Pompey at a very good rate but not so convenient as a marina berth but much, much cheaper. Very tempting as we could probably stay as a visitor in a marina every night we are on the boat and still be significantly better off. Downside is relying on ferry guy who knocks off at six so late Friday arrival might be a problem.

Any thoughts/suggestions on best value package? Is an MDL marina worth considering as they do fuel at cost? Do others do similar?

Will be doing some research but thought I would see if I can tap into some local knowledge :)

Might be worth speaking to Royal Clarence Gosport, in the past they’ve done me 3 month rolling contract, therefore giving access to annual rates but with only a 3 month commitment (I was selling a my boat at the time).
But as Paul says, north of the bridges on the Hamble will be the cheapest places, and I know Eastlands do something similar with a 3 month commitment as I’ve done the same there.

That is helpful, thanks.

There is certainly a bit of space around me at present at Foulkes Riverside Yard (The Old Barge). I will be paying £328 for 32' one month rolling contract basis after a small price rise from June, mid river walk ashore.

Thanks for that, very interesting. Might well be an option. Could get a club mid-river pontoon for less but walk ashore is a big benefit.

Foulkes do have an isolated pontoon, where I think the rates are about half, but no power or water. The row across is only ~20m. As VP mentioned about 2 minutes from Jn8, plus this year is Pirate Party year in mid September when the yard put on a fantastic party.
