hello all,

tried all the places I could locally and in Athens, to no avail.
Problem is that I have four doors, each one with 3 hinges and I now have 7 working ones
Easy to understand that the fourth cabin door wont work with one hinge, so currently at George's workshop waiting for at least one more hinge.
The photos are of two broken ones I have lying around and which my beloved machinist declined to fix (If you could remove the rusted pins out of the various pieces forming each hinge, you could mix and match and make one out of the broken two. Problem is it's a bitch to do and he's too busy to spent a morning trying to do it.

I vaguely remember Alf mentioning that he has similar hinges on Navigator and someone else saying that he may know a place that stocks them.

I've bought over the years various sized equivalent ones that are alloy and are much thicker means that I have to carve into the door and the frame. The door is okay, the frame isn't as i'll have to remove all the alloy and go through to the ply which I don't like as an idea. Further the alloy ones are in between sizes (one's smaller next size up is larger...)

Anyway, could someone help source them? Must be Italian, are definitely 70s and once kept oiled work nice and smooth. Just need 5more to be fill all spots and relieve the poor 40yo ones that hold the 3 other doors in place now.

thanks Pete, had a look, I think these guys are going to be my last resort for custom made ones, but being this complicated I don't want to think what the price will be if the accept the challenge!

Any thing useful here

Are these anywhere near what you are looking for.

Roger, these hinges are rather complex with 4 pins, popping out as they open, one of the list that came up are slightly close but not quite as the easy way of making the mechanism pop out the door as it opens is to use a pivot point inside the door/frame which wont work on my frames and doors.

Are they stainless?

Nope, chromed bronze or brass (never seem to be able to differentiate the two...)

I'd hope that somewhere in Italy they are still in stock (or even being built!) and I can order the exact ones. Unfortunately (and oddly) they are not stamped.
I'd expect many of the 70s italian boats have them. Pretty sure all other Versilcrafts feature them.

any other ideas most welcomed!

cheers

hm, annoys me when I have to come back and correct myself

cleaned them again, used a magnifying glass and guess what, they are stamped:

BREV +
DEP. SEPA

Brev I think is something like brevetatto (trade mark or something like that, so you don't really care about it)
The cross is a square one with double lines and looks like the Swiss flag cross.

but SEPA seems to be a brand making hinges in Italy

annoying thing is that they do have a website which is WIP and is basically empty
http://www.sepa-hinges.com/

any ideas how to find the model I want and order?

cheers

Maybe this will work, seems like a company called Hettich manufacture what you are looking for.

I found these guys http://perceptivefittings.co.uk/sep...-p-662.html?osCsid=4293fml44k1mamqt458qjf5dq5. Unless mistaken the 52mm item appears to match all the dimensions required.
Near the product image is a link to a pdf from Hettich showing detailed sizing.

If correct I'd love to invoice you for my googling skills, however the price of these things is sufficient that I think that would be unkind! :D

thanks WTR,

nice google work, only you're a day too late to claim for your googling skills as these guys (http://www.frasciohdw.com/frascio_products.cml?item=2012051710470720) returned my email and I've ordered 9 nickel plated ones for 220USD delivered down here
not quite as cheap as I'd thought but slightly cheaper than the ones you mention plus they don't seem to offer nickel plated ones and the brass ones wont fit with the polished alloy door frames in MiToS.

So, good result after all the struggle, means I can get the three more used doors with new hinges and keep my 40yo ones on one door and have 4 spares :D

cheers
