Sources for a metered power cable?

The most common type is the Metermaid. Prices vary wildly but you should be able to get one for about £120 with short leads to connect to your shorepower lead.

Rolec Leadmaster is another . One advertised at present on the For Sale forum but presumably already "bagged"

Only slightly drifting the thread - extract from letter recently received from Dunstaffnage Marina:
The Marina will no longer permit use of portable electric meters. This decision was taken due to the fire safety hazards surrounding them. We will now be charging a set rate for electric.

We made our own and saved a small fortune. EBay has ex domestic mains metres for a few quid. Buy a housing from maplin with a clear lid. A couple of glands and a bit of sealant and hey presto. Convert your existing lead to one with a meter.

But the home Marina would then charge you for units bought in the other marina.

Really???? Do you expect to have a metered cable for each marina you visit?

A metered cable is exactly the same as a fixed one, it doesn't reset. If it did you could just do so every day! What happens when you go to another marina that wants you to use your metered cable?. You need to capture a 'start' count each time you plug in to a new post. If the marina wants to charge you per unit but can't be bothered to fit their own bloody meters there has to be some system!

I have yet to visit a marina on a short term basis that requires me to have a meter

I don't think there is a system.

When I was in a marina with metered electricity they would just read the meter on my cable every so often and bill according to that. If I happened to use that lead at another marina then that usage would be captured on the next reading.

As it happened, my meter was on a short extension lead, and so I could just remove it if I was using electricity elsewhere. The alternative I guess would be ask the marina to do a reading before you set off, and then take another when you return.

But then you would pay your home marina for electricity you'd used elsewhere. Electricity for which there was probably a fixed charge built into the casual rates you'd be paying as a visitor.
In effect you could be paying twice for the power you used while away from base.

Having the meter on the short extension lead is the obvious solution though.
