Our boat has a 300 cable system for both inside and outside steering. The system looks we'll maintained and greased but is over 40 years. Steering goes quit heavy wich is unpleasant and costs a lot of power for the autopilot. Does anyone have experience and knows where to look first?
The system is mounted as in the attached picture. The rudder itself is werking very smooth, so that isnt the cause.

It was once suggested to me that heavy steering on the wheel was due to the cables being too tight.
If your autohelm is on the quadrant then slacker cables will not detract from the autohelm's performance.
Thanks. Now the (strong) chain motor is positioned near the steeringwheel. Maybe i'd better build it in near the quadrant.
