I need to make a bow roller extension for my boat which already has an ally bow roller. So I want to buy two pieces of 12mm or 10mm thick aluminium plate each maybe 250mm x 150mm.

Any idea where I might buy such a small quantity at a sensible price?

I was going to suggest Metal Supermarket as well. Cheaper than any "high street" chain like B&Q (who probably don't sell what you need anyway) but more expensive than a "proper" metal stockist, a scrappy, or offcuts from some business that uses aluminium plate (signwriters?)

They'll cut to size and sell you only what you need, although don't expect fancy shapes cut out for you.

Their Web site will find your nearest branch, but don't try to use it to check products or prices as it's connected to their US database rather than UK.

i get all sorts of oddments of metal from sheet metal workers and steel fabricators locally. It's cheaper than buying wood.

I just bought some stainless online from Metals4U they were pretty good but you have to pay postage.

A 500mm length of 6"x1/2" (152.4mm x 12.7mm) flat bar is £21.04

No experience with online metal purchasing, but would be very interested in your project as I need to fabricate a new piece for our bow roller as the previous owner seems to have crashed into a wall at some point...

the new beneteau part is over £800!

How are you fixing the extension? Drilling/bolting?

I'd go to a stockist and ask for any offcuts. Would probably be free.

Only problem, there's a world of difference between aluminum specs and marine grade is infrequently used by machine shops.

Dunno about "sensible price" but Noggin End have stock of pukka 5083 (marine) alloy in 10mm and 12mm thicknesses. Worth asking them directly about your specific size requirements.
(Note: they also sell 2014/HE15 plate, you don't want that as it'll corrode, 5083 is basically the only stuff that will do.)

I used them for 3mm plate for winch backing pads : good delivery and service, no relation.

The best place is Aluminium Warehouse

Select marine grade, punch in the dimensions, pay and it'll arrive in the post in a couple of days.

Brilliant service. I bought a serious piece of marine 5083 plate 550mm * 235mm * 12mm for £22. It came with the protective adhesive film on both sides and packed in seriously thick padding and wrapping. Not a scratch on it.
