Help! SWMBO now giving me BIG grief as I have spent loads of dosh on rubbish - Sails, life raft, anti fouling, new rigging, instruments etc. etc.
If I don't get something to cook with or at least boil a kettle on, I am in very big DO DO.

So please........
Anybody got a source for cost effective cookers - new or secondhand?
Thats a cooker with an oven, SWMBO's instructions.
Budget say £250 (ouch thats my new foul weather gear gone!)

Sympathy from here as I'm in the same boat. Just a quick reminder don't buy an old gas cooker like my VGC hardly used Plastimo Atlantic with grill and oven as it doesn't have flame failure protection and therefore as a new installation won't comply with the Gas Safety Regs. See the Calor gas website for more info. http://www.calormarineshop.co.uk/index.htm This may sound minor but you can't get insurance if your boat doesnt comply with the regs. (Therefore there is even more expense to fit a bubbler, a gastight locker and drain etc.) Good luck!

Maybe try a camping / caravanning shop if you don't mind it not being gimballed. That's where ours came from but it doesn't have an oven and it's not made of stainless.

Take a look at this German site
<A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.svb.de/cgi-bin/svb.pl?make=start_vs&lge=_en&uid=start>http://www.svb.de/cgi-bin/svb.pl?make=start_vs&lge=_en&uid=start</A>

There is an 'english' flag to convert the site into english. The section you need is 'plumbing etc' and there's a cooker section there. Example of prices:
Double ring Optimus -under 50 euros!
I've no idea what postage costs will be but their prices seem very reasonable indeed. (I've no connection with the company- saw them recommended on another forum)

Argos do a small portable stove that is very suitable for boats. Ok, difficult for the sunday luch, but a cheap, safe alternative, until something comes along.

I used one on mine all last year for cups of tea, and sandwiches last year.....prefect.
