Looking at Keypart's website for impellers for a VP2040-D, found as usual the V-P badged parts and also Keypart's alternates, for a little less.
However in the course of using Google to check part number changes I stumbled across a company called Repower, with a website that looks very like Keypart, selling all the similar stuff.
Their impellers are half the price.
Anyone had experience of impellers from Repower? These days you never know who's actually made anything....

Try Seascrew (google it) impellers less than half VP prices, from an Italian co, impellers arrive clearly marked as made in china ( maybe keep as 2nd back -up

I noticed the same ...
Repower less than half price.

I too would be interested too to hear from people who have used the cheaper impellers .

Have used "generic" impellors from various suppliers for a couple of decades and have as yet not had any problems with quality of construction from any of them.Usually around half price of VP branded product. As we need two fairly large impellors the saving can be worth while, normally source via Ebay.
However motorboat owners, more reliant on the engine being usable probably renew more frequently.
Usually replace ours every two years or so.
Have replaced earlier if going on extended voyage, not because of worry of failure but the sheer aggravation of grovelling around trying to get at blimming pump.
Do hear of horrific tales of impellors not being changed for year and years.
Also have collection of part used impellors that are to good to throw away and might be useful in an emergency.
Will have to cull at some point. :)

I have been in the habit of replacing impellers annually and also have a collection of a few from those that have been removed but found to be okay. It would seem my annual impeller change routine is over cautious. I have not experienced an impeller failure in 9 years / 900 engine hours .
Last weekend I had a look and found the impellers to be looking okay so have decided they can continue another year.

I'd use oem impeller, for all the extra cost...it's something you don't change too often and good to know a crucial unseen part is working well.
The difference in quality of a key part impeller and a oem mercruiser impeller is noticeable to the eye. Vp will no doubt be the same.
Just my tuppence worth.

On Ebay at the moment for my particular engine. Perkins M135 .
Jabsco £41.00 UK
Impellor fella £ 18.00. UK
Jabsco from USA £22.00 + £8.00 postage.

I only use impeller fella. No connection with him whatsoever just a happy customer. Nice guy to deal with and very efficient

Hi Cantata, If you look on EBay I have a Volvo impeller for sale item number 352009562141. You can either make a bid, or if it is unsold I will do you a deal.

Hi All
I would recommend buying branded impellor and changing whenever the boat has been laid up for a while
Why 1500Euros later overheat problem resulting in new head gasket caused by heat exchanger having blockage plus maybe not enough flow, caused by blades from cheap money saving impellor coming off. after 30 hours 7 months

I spoke at length with Jabsco whos info was confirmed by a pal who specializes in rubber compounds for hoses. Jabsco said all their impellors are tight tolerance made to own tried recipe and ground to size with concave faces as a final measure - Looking at my replacement spare cheap one it has not been ground
a) Impellors absorb water and expand when constantly immersed Therefore become larger and blades forced over further over time. If left the blade under cam can be put under more than design stress . Cheap impellors are dimensionally similar but with larger tolerance than main brands and not able to spend lengths of time in the forced down position as well as the more tolerant expensive ones
b) Most boats suction side either leaves the water, ie when heeled, or falling off a wave or gets a temporary obstruction weed, fish bag etc, The impellor running dry even for seconds means blades harden and can fall off. Jabsco said their recipe is more tolerant of dry running than cheap alternatives.
I learnt my lesson the hard way
