Sort out those Marina prices in Spain..

I don't believe I compared Spanish marinas to English ones... All I want is for a price quote to include everything in clear language.

It is normal mortals like you that I one day aspire to...

Think you will just have to learn to live with these ambiguities or you will drive yourself nuts trying to deal with something you can do nothing about. The reality is that there are many different ways of charging for marina berths, taxes etc vary from place to place and even when they all might seem to be the same different places may have different ways of calculating and showing them on their price lists and invoices etc.

You will find when you get to Greece, even though there is a detailed national scale of charges there are variations in the way it is done locally from not bothering to charge anything to making you go to two different offices (which may not necessarily be open at the same time) to pay different components of the charges.

Worrying about such things runs against the reasons why you cast off in the first place.

I thought Nostrodamus's USP was that he wrote books warning other people of pestilence, famine, war and unreasonable marina pricing practices? Shouldn't he be telling us rather than the other way round??

Tranona, you are right of course and I hope by highlighting the fact that there may be additional charges those coming south may be aware and ask the right questions in the first place rather than getting a shock in the end.
The prices may have additional costs to be added but in general they are still cheaper than the UK.

You are gonna winge a lot on here when you get into med spain.....as a former poster stated.......
You will love Ibiza/Majorca!!....best ask for an all inclusive price before you tie up there...some prices are scary!!.The EPPA marinas in Andalucia are relatively reasonable...........

We loved Ibiza, Majorca and Menorca this year. Spent 5 months cruising around the islands and anchoring every night. All for FREE Ok, I admit it, we did take a berth in San Antonio marina on 16th October - the day before we headed back to the mainland - for the princely sum of 25 euros!

Now that sounds good to me. Did you anchor or do you have to register for buoys in certain places and how did you find getting ashore?

Agree.

One year we spent 48 days continuous on the hook in various Majorcan Calas. When we finally went in to Santa Ponsa for one night we felt imprisoned.

Some Calas have been buoyed and any attempt to anchor will be met by a fast rib guiding you to a yellow buoy and appropriate charges being made. You just have to keep your ears open and pick up the latest info on where to avoid.

Getting a tender ashore is not normally a problem except that, if you take it in to a marina, you could be charged - or have it chained up or confiscated (happened to us in Torrevieja). Other hazards include tender being filled with sand by kids(!) or being nicked. Friends had theirs nicked this year. Went ashore to walk their dog, got back an hour later and tender had gone. They had to swim back to their anchored boat.

Think ahead for water and never miss an opportunity to fill jerrycans when taking the tender ashore. Often you have to pre-book water fill up with HM (as in San Antonio) who will send a couple of girls to unlock to supply for you. When this happens get the boat washed and everyone on-board showered.

Now that sounds good to me. Did you anchor or do you have to register for buoys in certain places and how did you find getting ashore?

We anchored the whole time with the exception of 4 nights when we picked up one of the Posidonia buoys. You can pre-book these online 24 hours before, for a maximum stay of 2 nights. No charge. They're dotted about the Balearics where there's eel grass (posidonia) in protected areas. Easy-peasy.

Getting ashore - fine thanks, just get in the dinghy and go but ensure you moor the dinghy where it's not an obstruction to anyone else.

Surprised that no-one has mentioned the G5 tax applicable to non-Spanish flagged boats; predominantly charged in Valencia region

Has it gone quiet on the G5 tax in southern Spain? I moved down here and no one seems to know much about it in Estepona?
