The marina prices in Spain are a nightmare.

Ask a price and they will happily give you one but they give you the basic price without anything added.

Go pay the bill and you might be in for a big surprise!

Some charge by length x width, some by pontoon size and winter rates apply at different times depending on where you are.

Then they will add on the IVA.

Some charge for water and electricity separate. Some you pay for wi fi and others you don't.

Now I have come across a new tax which they call T5. Does anyone know anything about this additional tax on top of the IVA.

Why can't the just give you a quote with everything included so you know where you stand?
 
What part of Spain are you referring to, as is often the case, the different regions of Spain do things in markedly different ways?

Many marinas on the Atlantic Andalusia coast belong to a junta so all have the same charges, which are clearly published in a brochure, available in the major European languages.

You could always pay for one night when you arrive & this would resolve your dilemma.

La Linea at the moment which is the first time we have come across the T5 tax.
We were told that it is something the government make all marinas pay on top of the IVA.. This makes it approx 28% on the basic price plus water and electricity and wi fi!
Anyone know anything about this T5 tax?

No hidden fees here! 1p l for water 15pkw power and free wifi. Morrissons is closer, and Charlie's always shows the footie. And you can get magners cider here!

And, wait for it, the sun is now out!

It was a good night the other night watching the footy with you and Captain Sensible.
There were also some exciting stories about the swell in marina bay and lines breaking. I am told that Queensway is worse.
We did get a price for Marina bay and it was slightly more expensive.
There was alsoa boat anchored outside the inner harbour in La Linea that dragged and ended up on the rocks.

I was aware of all the charges but it would be so much easier if there was just an upfront price you had to pay rather than quoting a price, adding IVA, adding T5 charges, taking away a discount, adding water and electric standing charges and taking them away for the period you are not on the boat.
Apparently the T5 charge is a national charge but many of the marinas just include it in the bill.
All I wanted was some plain English... well Spanish.

Very true, in fairness though, some uk marinas are just as bad! The plus side to where you are is the tapas, and the much cheaper chandlery especially if you try a little English with the lady that works there, she normally does a bit of discount if you help her out with English.

Queensway is worse for swell, but marina bay is not much better, just noticed that one of my stainless mooring springs have a crack in it, that's how bad the swell has been the past couple of days. What's worse is its over sized and less than a year old!

Could be worse I suppose, I could live in a house..... :-)
 
We only used one Junta marina (Barbate) this year and don't remember any T5 tax, nor in El Rompido. We paid £15/night (high season) for 12m in Gib and friends in La Linea paid virtually the same. Gib has free wi-fi and, if any available, Ocean Village finger berths were £1 extra/night. Used the anchorage in La Linea but not the marina.
 
It's called unbundling. I remember the days when the big computer companies would charge a flat rate of (say) 250 million dollars a year to supply a large mainframe system plus a maintenance crew. Then IBM broke it down in a much publisized unbundling plan. 150 million for the computer, 50 million for maintenance, 50 million for spare parts, 90 million for software etc for a total around 370 million dollars.

hey were followed by such filk as the local councils who instead of asking local tax payments of 60 pounds per year changed to 30 pounds a month.

And so on. Don't remember the actual prices so I made up the above examples nut I think close to the ball park figures.
