I found that my new (July/Aug 05) Sony MiniDisk player in the boat wouldn't play disks - radio worked fine, but when you shuv a disk in it whirs around for a bit then shoves up "MD ERROR" on the screen ... I tried different disks and a cleaning disk - these disks work in the personal MD player and the home stereo player ...
So - I took the radio out and returned it to Peters in Chichester.
3 weeks later and they sent it back to their supplier for a warranty assessment .. it came back with "No problem found" ... ok I thought - I'll give it a go on the boat then ... so out today in the tender (radio all wrapped up nice and warm & dry!) ... plugged in, in with a random MD from home - exactly the same problem as before - no change /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Anyone got any clues if an external influence might be causing this? Nothing has changed in the kit installed on the boat since it was installed (and tested working) and the unit itself is still sub 12months.

I think my next step is to try and rig it up at home to test, but I don't have removable radios in the cars so will have to go and buy a connector to get power to it /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Yes test it at home. You will need 12 volt supply. Try shoving wires into holes or if they are pins try puting a piece of pllastic tube a few mm diam. over the bare wires of your supply and pushing the lot over a pin. I may not be envisioning your connector needs but it is surprising what a little ingenuity can acheive to get wires connected. You might wanbt to carry the whole rig to the shop to prove it won't work when returning it. good luck olewill

Yer - thanks for that ... they said there was nothing wrong with it .. therefore no replacement/credit ...

Pins are fairly small in the back and as it is 1 block I don't know which one is which ... so I either have to dismantle the boat installation or get a new lead ... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I might just take it to HFds and see if they'll plug it in for me ... u never know - they might be helpful!

Halfords proved to be very helpful .... thankyou Halfords in Chichester /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif !! they connected up my radio without fuss and proved on a seperate installation that the Minidisk still didn't work ... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif ... so back to Peters on Monday ...

What is a reasonable timescale to expect a repair/replacement? Cos I'm getting pi$$ed off with an empty hole in my nav desk ...
